Holly, this was such a fun read! I have two bamboo trays that I’ll bring for you on Sunday during the 11:00 service. ;)

As a recovering Kardashian beige house owner, we could definitely use some help—haha! But I’ve always loved a home that feels lived-in, with layers, textures, and pieces that tell a story. When we first got married, we set up our home during lockdown, and as a result, everything ended up beige—safe, neutral, and, honestly, a little uninspired.

Now that we’ve grown a bit, I’m definitely feeling the pull away from that overly minimalist style and toward a space with more depth and personality. I’m excited to start layering in pieces that make our home feel more like us. I do love a good antique or tchotchke—there’s just something about those little treasures that make a space feel warm and interesting!

As someone who also loves opening the door wide and can’t bear to exclude someone, lately we have had a few gatherings that were “too big” for our cozy home. But we just encourage people to bring their coats and spill into the backyard where we set up a couple fire pits, and the kids don’t seem to mind being all crammed together in small rooms. They’re going to bunch up thisclose around the present-opener anyway. It wouldn’t matter if the room was 3 times bigger. But perhaps a few bamboo trays would give us a little more flexibility! You know I love a good second hand treasure hunt. I’ve got a new mission.

And I offered my son one of those bamboo trays (because he was sitting on that couch with a plate of pancakes trying to figure out where to put his drink). I will never forget how I said, “Here-use a tray.” -and then watched him remove a pancake from his plate and place it directly on that bamboo tray. 🙈 Good thing he isn’t usually a syrup on pancakes kid. And also, I knew these precious trays were not actually all that precious and even if he had just smeared syrup all over it, you and I would have both giggled to ourselves as we cleaned it up.

I love so much that you don’t see the size of your house as an obstacle, but rather flex with it to suit your family and encourage people to think creatively. It’s is always a JOYFUL thing to be in your home!
